RACING IDENTITIES
RESEARCH
This research project examines how the visual identities of motorsports, specifically Formula 1 and NASCAR and how they reflect deeper cultural values and class distinctions within their audiences. By analyzing elements such as car design, sponsorship integration, typography, and overall branding systems, the project explores how each sport communicates status, accessibility, and identity through design. Formula 1 presents a refined, global, and technologically driven aesthetic, while NASCAR leans into a more regional, mechanical, and utilitarian visual language. These insights informed a series of design outcomes, including custom car liveries and race suits, translating research into visual systems that embody each sport’s distinct identity.
